To launch the scientific content series dedicated to Antimicrobial Resistance, we went to one of the most prominent scientists on the topic. Rafael Cantón is Head of the Clinical Microbiology Department at Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal in Madrid, Associate Professor at Complutense University, and former President of EUCAST – the body that sets antimicrobial susceptibility standards across Europe. Few people have spent more time at the intersection of resistance mechanisms, clinical practice, and international policy.
