The study evaluated the performance of Copan FecalSwab™ for the molecular detection of gastrointestinal pathogens across a range of transport and storage conditions. Using a panel of 13 clinically relevant enteric pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites, researchers assessed nucleic acid stability and compatibility with multiple commercial molecular diagnostic assays. Results showed that FecalSwab™ maintained reliable molecular performance for up to 15 days at both refrigerated and room temperatures, as well as after three freeze-thaw cycles. No molecular interference was observed across the tested diagnostic platforms. These findings support the use of FecalSwab™ as a robust sample collection and transport device for molecular gastrointestinal testing, helping laboratories improve diagnostic reliability, workflow efficiency, and sample integrity.
