CoScience Awards – Usability and evaluation of an innovative device for urine self-collection

Matteo Beffa,
Senior Innovation Microbiology Laboratory Specialist

Selected for a featured session at the latest ESCMID Congress in Munich and awarded among the most representative studies featuring Copan products with our CoScience award, this poster by Matteo Beffa presents a novel urine collection device designed to simplify self-collection for non-professional users. Featuring an expandable sponge with two collection options, immersion or direct voiding, the device provides clear visual confirmation of sample uptake and automatically transfers urine into the collection tube through a patented mechanism. Usability testing showed high user satisfaction, no significant differences between collection methods, and consistent sample volumes. Discover how this innovative solution could improve both the patient experience and laboratory workflow efficiency.
